How far can I go on a single charge?

How far can I go on a single charge?

One factor people often consider when buying an electric bike is range, how far can I go on a single charge? And, honestly, it’s one of the most important factors in deciding which e-bike to purchase. One of the facts prominently stated by the manufacturer about almost every ebike is the range that the ebike is capable of, that is to say: the distance that particular ebike can travel on a single charge.

If you’ve ever delved into the specifications of multiple ebikes, be it looking to purchase one or just through pure curiosity, you will have found that electric bike range can vary greatly amongst ebikes that have very similar technical specifications. In fact, some run multiple battery quality tests and use an average, some run the math and find the average that way, and others put down the highest number they can pull from either of these processes; after all, part of this is marketing.

It’s important to keep in mind that riding range for all e-bikes depend on many factors including...some of them are mechanical, some of them are electrical, and many of them are external factors.

Electrical Factors

  • Two prevailing electrical factors determine the range of the e-bike including power choices and battery capacity. Most e-bikes have a lithium-ion battery. The greater the amount of power the battery can hold, the greater the e-bike’s range.
  • Additionally, when the rider learns to optimize the use of electric assist, there is most likely to be a greater range.

Mechanical Factors

  • Bike tire choice and pressure, and gearing are two main mechanical factors. Smoother, slimmer tires are much better choices for having a greater e-bike range. While knobby fat tires are great for exploring trail systems they are not so great on range. Under-pumped tires can provide more traction, but have an adverse impact on the length of your cycling trip.
  • It is absolutely significant to get the gearing balanced in order to limit the extra effort and calories invested by the rider, subsequently reducing the e-bike’s range.

External Factors

  • Hill grade

  • Wind

  • Road Bumps

  • Riding position

  • Outside temperature

  • How much you pedal

Revi bikes are equipped with the industry-leading 48V battery have a riding range between 20-55 miles. You can notice our explanation of range:The max range is achieved under the below conditions: Rider weight 120 lbs, no wind, 68℉, flat paved road, PAS level 1, ECO mode, the throttle is not engaged.

If you have an ebike you can be your own personal electric bike range calculator. Simply run your battery down to empty when you’re out on an adventure and use the distance covered to work out your own personal range. Do this a few times to get your personal average and then you can see how optimizing for range using the above points can change it.
